Objetivo The objective of the SSA proposal NAPOLY is to investigate and identify the possibilities that advancements innanotechnology can give for the development of new biopolymers. These new biopolymers can be used to high value eco-friendly industrial applications to ensure sustainable development. In this project the aim is to identify the potential research strategies for future IP(s) that will focus on trying to change industrial oil based materials resources to sustainable alternatives or to knowledge based multifunctional biopolymers from renewable resources. NAPOLY consists of six Work Packages in which expert group studies will be conducted and thus aide range of relevant professionals will be mobilised. Investigations are made on possibilities in biopolymer raw material and processing development when using the potential of Nan technology. Simulation, characterisation and testing needs and requirements for new Nan technology based biopolymer materials and applications are mapped. Possibilities that Nan technology opens for biopolymers to be used in biomedical applications, and in packaging, and paper and printing sectors, are investigated. Socio-economic aspects are identified. NAPOLY is addressing the Work Programme in topic 3.4.1.5-1 Roadmaps for Nan technology. The output will illustrate in due detail realistically expected developments in the industrial fields of biopolymers and their processing development, and in the biomedical and paper and packaging applications. The role fosses and have relevant industry in general will be given special attention. Thus the future research and development results will truly be able to create commercial opportunities and increase employment and European competitiveness on global market. By tackling the societal needs in the health care sector and the need for sustainable development of the society, the research strategies to be obtained will enhance the social welfare of the European citizens as well.
