Objective An existing pickling installation for cold rolled stainless steel sheets will be modified so as to avoid the use of nitric acid; this will be achieved by regulating the oxygen reduction potential and using non-polluting oxidising compounds (oxygenated water). The economy of the process in addition to its ecological advantages comes from the less expensive treatment of the baths, from the elimination of nitric acid and from the recuperation of nickel and chromium.
