Network of EUROpean funding on Neurological research

Obiettivo

The consortium realising NEURON comprises the Fonds National de la Recherche (Luxembourg), Ministry of Scientific Research and Information Technology (Poland), Chief Scientist Office of the Ministry of Health (Israel) and Projekttraeger im DLR (Germany, co-ordinator). The SSA aims to prepare an ERA-NET linking European national and regional research funding programmes in the field of disease-related neuroscience. Among the many diseases affecting health, neurological disorders are major causes for impaired quality of life, and over one billion people world wide suffer from them. The thematic priorities of the funding programmes involved in the SSA will be on neuronal degeneration and neural repair. Measures shall be taken by the consortium to develop a network and to lay the foundation for further extension of network activities. A platform for partnering and networking of funding organisations in EU member states and associated or candidate countries will have beneficial effects for the integration of research policies and creation of a European Research Area. Consortium members shall exchange information on existing national programmes. By sharing experiences on procedures and best practices in each partner organisation this will induce a mutual learning process. The consortium will discuss and identify topics of common interest that shall undergo a more detailed benchmarking process in a future ERA-NET. They will develop and implement efficient governance and communication structures to gradually grow into a functioning network with sufficient flexibility for extension. Suitable additional partners shall be identified by compiling knowledge about European governmental and private funding bodies in the area of neurological research funding. Potential new partners shall be invited to join the activity. Progress achieved in the network shall be communicated to decision-making bodies, the scientific community, patient organisations, and the general public.
