European Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology 2005

Cel

The European Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ECMTB05) is the main international event for the mathematical and theoretical biology community in the year 2005. ECMTB05 is organized by the Center for High Performance Computing in Dresden and will be held at Dresden University of Technology (Germany), July 18-22, 2005. The event is supported by the European Society for Mathematical and Theoretical Biology (ESMTB) and the Society for Mathematical Biology (SMB). ECMTB05 is the sixth tri-annua l conference of ESMTB and is devoted to one of the fastest growing domains in science where experimental biology and medicine, biochemistry, mathematics, computer science, physics and various fields of technology merge. The conference has two objectives, ( 1) to communicate the best of recent advances in mathematical modelling approaches in the life sciences and to identify key targets of future work and (2) to provide a platform for young researchers. (1) is ensured by the expertise of the scientific board and world leading keynote speakers representing 10 hot topics: cellular biophysics, regulatory networks, development, neural systems and the brain, evolution and ecology, immune systems, biomedical applications, biotechnology, innovative mathematical metho ds, inter-disciplinary education. ECMTB05 will attract over 600 scientists worldwide with more than 150 young researchers and more than 50 researchers from East-European countries. Towards objective (2), most young researchers will give talks in mini-sympo sia or parallel sessions and present posters. A special mentoring programme will initiate contacts between young researchers and experts. One day of introductory lectures (July 17, 2005) enables newcomers to optimally benefit from the event. Communication shall be optimised by a social programme and ample opportunities for discussions. ECMTB05 features a public lecture by the Akira Okubo prize awardee, a session for school teachers and a company exhibition
