Development of methods of achieving near-liquidus casting on bloom continuous casting plants

Objective

This plant intends to develop methods of applying continuous casting techniques for large blooms at near liquidus temperatures already investigated in research projects 7215- CA/807 and 7210-CA/215. These techniques will be perfected on steels with carbon contents of 0.2 to 0.8% and for rates up to 1 tonne/minute/line. Industrial testing will be carried out at Scunthorpe: blooms with stopper tundish opening, and at Teesside: blooms with sliding gate tundish opening.
