Cambridge Programme for International Research on Europe (CAPIRE): Proposal for an Early-Stage Research Training Project (EST) on the External Relations of the European Union.

Ziel

The proposed Cambridge Programme for International Research on Europe (CAPIRE) constitutes a structured program for advanced research training in Contemporary European Studies with a specific focus on the different aspects of the Em’s External Relations; commercial, legal, diplomatic and security-related policies, their formulation, execution and democratic accountability. The project will provide multidisciplinary research training for 12 Marie-Curie Fellows from diverse European backgrounds.

The Fellows will receive from 10 to 36 months of doctorate-level training with the aim of either (a) completing a 3-year PhD Degree at Cambridge University;
(b) completing 10 months of focused research training as part of a doctorate degree course undertaken at another university;
(c) concluding 10 months of post graduate training with the object of earning the Degree of MPhil in Contemporary European Studies and with the possibility of continuing to read for the PhD at Cambridge or another European university.

The specific scientific and educational goals of the CAPIRE project are to enable a small group of promising young researchers (the Marie Curie Fellows) to develop the qualifications necessary to embark on a long-term research career; to enable them to link effectively to the wider European research community; and to equip them with the necessary complementary skills to disseminate their knowledge to a broad public audience. These goals will be accomplished through a combination of personal supervision and tutoring, a sequence of lectures and seminars in related foundation subjects, and a guided program of practical research within the CAPIRE Research Group and in collaboration with experienced Cambridge scholars. In addition, Fellows will attend courses and workshops on research design and management, and presentation skills-including workshop aimed specifically at training fellows in the effective dissemination of their work.
