Objectif Progress in understanding the mechanisms governing mRNA biogenesis has led to the concept of a unified theory of gene expression that operates on a vast network of interactions among multiple components of distinct macromolecular assemblies. In particular, transcriptional regulation appears to rely upon an extensive cross-talk between the basal transcription machinery with different regulators and co-regulators, as well as with components of the post-transcriptional apparatus. The objective of the Host orga nization is to carry out relevant research on the interplay of selected macromolecular assemblies functioning in regulated gene expression. These refer to the TFIID basal transcription complex interacting with members of signal regulated AP-1 transcription factor, the transcription complex TAC (TBP-TFIIA-containing complex) involved in retinoid regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation, and novel multi-protein complexes of the specific transcription factor TAFII68. The proposed study is in a very competitive area of research with an expected impact on many aspects of basic, as well as applied Biomedical research. To achieve our objectives we need the combined actions of the TOKDevelopment Host Scheme that provides for an extensive transfer of know ledge with both the incoming experience researchers and the scientific upgrading of own staff in two top pre-selected Partners Labs. The implementation of the TOK actions will increase the overall scientific capacity of the Host which, due to its current d ynamics and potential, can make best use of the objectives of the action. This will be done by the exchange of scientific information, the mastering of new technologies in proteomics and functional genomics, theoffering of high quality of training to its p ersonnel and the spreading of knowledge to the local and national community via organized seminars and workshops.
