Molecular neuro-immunology early stage training

Objetivo

NeuroImmunology is a rapidly growing area of research with enormous potential for contribution to our understanding of physiological and disease processes. As current training opportunities in this area are inadequate to address this potential, this progra mme is targeted at providing postgraduate researchers with cross-disciplinary research training in cellular and molecular NeuroImmunology in the context of human physiology and disease. The programme will provide: A 3-year Ph D course comprising structured research training in a multi-disciplinary context and an education curriculum ranging from molecular to clinical aspects of NeuroImmunology; and targeted technological training courses in state-of-art fluorescent imaging techniques, includling live cell i maging, confocal, FRET and 3-colour flow cytometry. Structured research training for doctoral trainees will revolve around a cross-disciplinary research project co-supervised by established researchers in neuroimmunology, neuroscience and immunology drawn from a multidisciplinary network of 21 research groups. Training will be augmented by a programme of research seminars, lectures from international experts and training in generic skills including Bioethics. Doctoral trainees will enrol in the Institute¿s post-graduate education programme in Molecular Medicine. Complementary courses will include Medicine and Society, and Entrepreneurship for Biotechnology and Life Sciences, in addition to Targeted technological training in the application of state-of-the-art cellular and molecular imaging techniques. The programme will take place in the dynamic intellectual environment of the Conway Institute for Biomolecular and Biomedical Research in University College Dublin, established in 2000 to foster multi-discipli nary and cross-sectoral approaches to research, education and training in biomedicine. Technology platforms available within the Institute include state-of-art genomics, proteomics and imaging facilities.
