Objective The aim of this research is to study a range of techniques, which may be available to join sheet steel fabrications made from precoated steels. These can include adhesive bonding with induction heating for ultra rapid curing, press bonding and self-piercing rivetting. These will be studied to optimise tool design and evaluate the mechanical characteristics of the jointed assemblies. Composite methods will be studied, e.g. mechanical fastening/adhesive bonding, to determine their place in an overall assembly scheme.
