Improvement of the properties of stainless steel strip by means of new continuous coating technologies

This research project will study improvements of the surface properties of austenitic and ferritic stainless steel strip (AISI 430 and AISI 304) aimed at providing improved surface corrosion resistance or decorative finish, or thermal barrier surface properties through the application of various metal, oxide, nitride and carbide coatings by chemical vapour (CVD) and physical vapour deposition (PVD) processes activated by plasma. A technico-economic comparison between the two processes will be carried out.
