Objective In this project, techniques of modifying the composition of passive films formed on ferritic and austenitic stainless steels will be studied. Amongst the techniques considered are the electrochemical incorporation of enhanced chromium and/or molybdenum contents, more noble elements e.g. palladium or platinum or reducible elements such as copper and nickel. The corrosion resistance and the ageing characteristics will be evaluated.
