Cel Objectives(1) To describe and explain the nature, structure, composition and direction of East-West migration flows (specifically from former U.S.S.R. countries);(2) To examine the causes of migration and the role of economic ( e. g. human capital, social benefits, wage differentials, employment inequalities, the stock of dwelling, etc) and non-economic factors (e. g. war, ethnicity, historical and cultural links, political instability, etc.);(3) To investigate the consequences (socio-economic benefits and costs) of migration for both sending and receiving countries and for the migrants themselves. To study the consequences of migration in several contexts: social exfoliation, income and human poverty problem by regions, stabile human development and etc.;(4) To analyze separately the cases of old and new migrant-receiving (European) countries; the representative examples will be Great Britain and Greece respectively;(5) To draw conclusions and proceed to specific policy recommendations;(6) To find the possible and real leverages and ways of the state social-economic policy for the regulation of migration processes;(7) To determine in the considered countries Greece, UK, Armenia, and Russia, the subordination of the production factors Labor (L), Capital (K), Land (T, terra), and E (entrepreneurship) - by calculation of corresponding elasticity coefficients with respect to these factors.(8) To study direction of the motion of the production factor Labor, that is explicitly become apparent as migration of the labor force.(9) To involve civil servants and young researchers engaged in policy decision-making;(10) To establish a network of research on migration theory in the NIS countries. Research Programme:Task 1. Development of a new mathematical model for the European migration based upon Harris-Todaro- Stark and Hatton-Williams models.Task 2. The investigation of migration flows from the former USSR countries to Greece.Task 3. The investigation of migration flows from the former USSR countries to the U. K. Task 4. Migrants flows from Armenia in last 25-30 years and trends of the migration characteristic changes. Task 5. Development of a model on migration of labor force as an interaction of four production factors.Expected results:University Discussion papers, quality journal articles, papers containing the results of our research to be presented at national/international conferences. Risks:Not to provide complete set of necessary statistical data, particularly in NIS states.
