Cel The aquaculture industry is facing increasing challenges due to a more demanding and selective market combined with a tougher competition from non-European countries. Technological solutions contributing to a more ethical production of healthier fish and with a reduced impact on the environment are a major step towards a higher quality product and restoration of the consumer's confidence in farmed fish. This study aims to design the European Aquaculture Centre of Technology (ACT): a large-scale experime ntal facility in Mid-Norway that will address the unmet needs in the European aquaculture sector. As a future meeting place for technology and biology, the goal of the ACT will be to seek technical solutions with direct or indirect biological impact. Ba sed on an international inquiry involving all types of aquaculture stakeholders, an inventory will be made of infrastructure technology gaps that are currently experienced in the sector. When combining the data of the inventory with the natural condition s at the foreseen site (area of Valsneset, Mid-Norway) and the economical constraints, a sketch of the new infrastructure and a construction plan will be made. The design of the European ACT will be based on a continuous and close cooperation between tec hnologists, marine biologists and ecologists on one side and the fish farming industry and its suppliers on the other. A Project monitoring group and an International advisory group will monitor the progress and review and evaluate the project on a regul ar basis.
