Objetivo

SAVE THE ROBOTS_ An exhibition, workshop series and festival exploring the art and science of robotics at The Ark: A Cultural Centre for Children in Dublin, Ireland, June 22-September 30 2005 Objectives -- To introduce over 15,000 children and young peo ple to the creative and imaginative nature of research in engineering through a major exhibition exploring the past and future of robotics including interactive displays, reconstructions of ancient automata and original artifacts on loan from museums and laboratories around the world at The Ark, Europe?s first custom-designed cultural centre for children in Dublin, Ireland, -- To provide young people with introductory hands-on experience of solving engineering problems through a series of robot-buildin g workshops to be held at The Ark during the period of the exhibition -- To raise awareness of the creative, playful side of robotics research in Europe by bringing ArtBots, the International Robot Talent contest, normally held annually in New York, to E urope for the first time in July 2005. -- To involve the robotics and engineering research community directly in the workshops as workshop directors and facilitators, providing young people with clear role models for careers in computer science and engine ering -- To develop innovative programmes for schools around Ireland before and after the exhibition (in partnership with national science outreach organization Discover Science and Engineering) exploring robotics as an area that appeals to the native in terests of children, facilitates collaborative work, promotes a design-approach to problem-so (in partnership with national science outreach organization Discover Science and Engineering) exploring robotics as an area that appeals to the native interests of children, facilitates collaborative work, promotes a design-approach to problem-solving, and challenges gender-bias by representing engineering as a creative, artistic activity.
