Continuous casting of steel wires

The aim of this proposal is the fabrication of steel wires of 0.1 to 3 mm diameter on an industrial scale by in-rotation-liquid spinning and shape flow casting. An instrumented and computerized facility will allow the modelling of the process. The most important process parameters are: the superheat of the melt, the velocity of the melt jet and the coolant, the heat transfer and the secondary cooling. Continuous casting by using modified melt spinning technology enables a flexible and low cost production of wires with improved microstructure and superior properties.
