Objetivo With the increasing use of coal injection and the development of iron ore and flux injection, controlling conditions existing in the raceway is becoming more and more important to ensure stable and efficient operation of the blast furnace. The aim of this project is to expand the work of contract 7210.AA/803 by developing an improved mathematical model of the raceway by including parameters for the full range of coal properties used for injection into the blast furnace. To use this to predict raceway conditions for a variety of coal types, blast and injectant levels, and to derive data which will allow these to be optimised, irrespective of process conditions. The model will be calibrated and validated using results from ECSC work in UK, Belgium, Holland and Italy.
