Objectif Thermonuclear fusion is one of the few large-scale energy production alternatives for the 21st century. To realise a fusion reactor, the understanding and control of the edge conditions of the plasma is one of the key issues. There are important issues to be resolved before a decision to construct a fusion reactor, e.g. divertor concept, control of edge transport barrier and turbulence, and heat load distributions on plasma facing components. The present conference, following an increasing number of conferences in this field during the last years, challenges this need.
