Obiettivo Proposed Events:Euro Summer Schools TRENTO2001-02 PROPOSER. EAGER, a European Network in Algebraic Geometry, sponsored by the EC Human Potential Programme (contract HPRN-CT-2000-00099). Keynote Speakers:L. Caporaso (IT), J. Harris (USA),I. Morrison (USA) in 2001, H. Clemens (USA) and C. Voisin (FR) in 2002 Project Topic: Algebraic geometry is a core mathematical discipline that has been intensively studied since the late 19th century. It provides a range of geometric techniques describing solutions to equations. Because most of mathematics is concerned at some level with setting up and solving equations, for example to model problems in applications, algebraic geometry plays a central role in mathematics and physics. The planned schools address particularly themes with close connections to physics (string theory) and arithmetic: the invited keynote speakers will lecture on Moduli Spaces of Curves in 2001, and on Algebraic Cycles and Hodge Theory in 2002. Programme Content: The TRENTO schools are designed for effective, advanced training of post-docs in algebraic geometry and related fields. Each event brings 40 European post-docs and 20 further participants together with a few selected international experts as keynote speakers. In the mornings, the invited experts give mini-courses on the chosen topics, with lectures and problem sessions. Selected junior participants give seminar lectures in the late afternoons. Each junior talk is followed by a discussion with particular emphasis on constructive comments by the keynote speakers. The early afternoons and the evenings are reserved for junior-to-junior, junior-to-senior, and senior-to-senior discussions, with "office hours" scheduled by the invited speakers.
