European meta databases of E-academic resources

Obiettivo

EUREA was a feasibility project aiming to determine the best conditions for implementation, commercial operating and perpetuation of a European cross-border mutualisation system of academic e-resources of the highest quality.

Nine of the twelve European universities with the highest performances in research joined efforts to pool and enhance their high quality digital resources by gathering them into extensive interoperable and multilingual European multimedia databases, and by developing tools and services to promote and exploit theses resources.

The wish was to "establish a vision of higher education that would be known throughout the world, and by that to become major actors in the emerging e-learning market".

Besides the elaboration of mature technical and managerial models, the partnership focused on defining the conditions for enlargement of the partnership to other European universities. The partners also developed the business dimension of the project, essential to its perpetuation:

- investigation of all the possible ways of commercial operating of the planed mutualisation system;
- search private partners to support and consolidate the business dimension;
- realisation of a market analysis and elaboration of a mature business model.
