Renewable Energy COordinated DeVElopment in the Western Balkan Region

Objetivo

The current non-sustainable patterns of the energy use in the Western Balkans stem to a large degree from the political, social, and financial instability of the region. To change these patterns, there is a need to address the full range of activities, nec essary to overcome the barriers to a large-scale penetration of RES. Key objectives To contribute to the sustainable energy development in the Western Balkan Countries, through: - Identification of the best options for RES utilization and technology transf er opportunities - Identification of research priorities and areas in the field of RES. Scope of work - Analysis of the current energy situation, energy strategy and policy, legal framework, distribution and use of RES, and the macroeconomic parameters in the Western Balkan Countries - Examination of the EU Member States' experience and achievements in the research field related to RES - Identification of the research and regulatory priorities concerning the realization of the best options for RES utilizat ion - Dissemination of the conclusions and recommendations among the policy makers, regulatory authorities, stakeholders, NGOs and investment community. Approach The available studies and information on the RES potential and technologies will be complement ed and utilised. On this basis, a comparative analysis of the different options will be performed and the option best for each country will be defined. In order to realise the coordinated development of RES utilisation, research priorities and regulatory measures will be identified and recommended.
