Access to European Centre for Analysis in the Social Sciences

Objectif

The European Centre for Analysis in the Social Sciences (ECASS) provides access to resources of the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex, the UK Data Archive, the Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis and Collection and the world-class social science departments of the University. ECASS assists in the creation of better intelligence systems on European data availability and needs, has established and maintains a range of comparative European data in collaboration with national and European data collections agencies, is a centre for analysis of cross-national longitudinal European data - panels, time budgets, household budgets, and provides resources for collaborative research. Specialist libraries offer access to a unique collection of social science literature and survey documentation, and the University Library's excellent collection of social science reference and research literature.

ISER is also the home of the EUROMOD, a tax-benefit micro simulation model covering all Member States, allowing research on single Member States, comparative research across countries or analysis at the EU level. ECASS combines access to data and to the support services required to fully exploit these rich resources. Funds will allow the continuation of the access programme, previously funded by the HCM, TMR and IHP programmes. A minimum of 2912 access days will be offered to at least 136 researchers for visits of 2 weeks to 3 months over a period of four years.

First class computing facilities, technical and substantive assistance, access to large stores of social science data (including unique datasets) and full integration into an active and stimulating research community are offered to visiting researchers. ECASS has an active publishing programme, hosts' seminars and conferences in the social sciences and has long and wide experience in the hosting of research visitors through various funded programmes.
