MarieCurie-iLEAPS - A Training program under a theme of "Integrated Land Ecosystem and Atmospheric Processes Study",Theory and Applications

Objective

The goals of the Marie Curie-iLEAPS (Integrated Land Ecosystem and Atmospheric Processes Study) training program is to improve our understanding of land ecosystem - atmospheric processes behind the global change. This proposal presents a training programm e of four events targeted to theoretical and methodological aspects of the transport and transform energy and matter between land ecosystems and atmosphere. The proposed training programme is part of the iLEAPS, International Integrated Land Ecosystem-Atm osphere Processes Study, which is a core-project of IGBP, the International Geosphere - Biosphere Programme. iLEAPS-IGBP is currently setting up its implementation instruments such as conferences, workshops, summer schools and other events for training in order to meet its scientific goals and here proposes MarieCurie-iLEAPS Training Programme to be a part of its implementation plan. The content of proposed MarieCurie-iLEAPS events are based on scientific focus of the iLEAPS-IGBP program having series of training courses (2) and conferences (2) under the titles of 1) "Integrated measurements over land ecosystem atmosphere boundaries", 2) "Towards a process-based description of trace gas emissions in land surface models", 3) "Model-Data assimilation, rec ent progress and future needs" and 4) "Feedbacks-Land-Climate Dynamics" - Key caps in current understanding. The program forms a coherent set of events having a hands on training of the measurement techniques and model testing and being a forum for theoret ical discussions and teaching. Summaries of scientific outcomes will be disseminated via articles in IGBP newsletters. The training events will produce a collection of state-of-the art teaching and reference material on the topics that will be covered duri ng the courses. The teachers will be submitting written course materials to the students; it will be discussed beforehand whether these material could be the basis for a published teaching book.
