Cel Recently, the EU decided to forge partnerships with India in its 20 billion euro research and technology development programme. It has identified nanotechnology and nanosciences for Indian participation. As part of the EU FP6 Programme for R#Amp;D, Indian scientists will be encouraged to participate intensely in various research programmes. Nanotechnology is emerging as one of the key technologies of the 21st Century and is expected to enable developments across a wide range of sectors that can benefit citizens and improve industrial competitiveness. It is imperative that more projects are set into motion, engaging key institutions, scientists, civil society, policy makers and others from both sides involved in the nanosciences and nanotechnology to share and exchange information. This project acts as an adhesive in direct response to the European Union's partnership with India. The proposed EuroIndiaNanoNet project brings together a consortium of highly accredited institutions from Europe and India and provides a medium for discussions between stakeholders on various issues of nanotechnology. In particular, this project's main aim is to study the mechanisms in India that foster innovation in the nanosciences and nanotechnologies. These mechanisms will include training programmes, support structures and policies. An in-depth study will be developed to help create an understanding of the Indian nanotechnology and nanosciences areas and to better position the EU and India's scientific research goals in this area. The project will create a EU-India cross-border platform strategy implementation plan, which will outline an approach for establishing further nanotechnology research collaborations between India and the EU. The networking of key EU and Indian stakeholders is paramount to the successful dissemination and exchange of knowledge that will lead to strengthening both regions' research areas in nanosciences and nanotechnology research programs.
