Coordination Action of Ports for integration Of Efficient Innovations and development of adequate Research, development and innovation Activities

Cel

CAPOEIRA concentrates on Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) in the field of freight transport activities in ports (handling, communication, transport modes 'accesses'). On the one hand, the increase of maritime traffic (European Sea Ports Organisation announces that traffics will have doubled in 2015 in European ports) and the increasing demand of society for environment protection, security and safety require a better management of transport in ports, what ports actors have up to now limited by addressing their corporatist interests only.

On the other hand, the European Commission funded numerous RDI projects whose prototypes were never marketed. CAPOEIRA will bring together under workshops main relevant actors (from European ports, ports professional organisations, technology platforms and advisory councils, and future 3.15 to 3.17 and 4.11 projects) so as to develop recommendations regarding future (and current) RDI projects in ports with the objective to minimize the risk of associated public or private investments. From the analysis of failures and successes of previous projects (in terms of technologies and organisations), CAPOEIRA will produce guidelines for current and future RDI projects addressing various aspects (technical, socio economic, environmental?), with the aim to minimise the risk of investments, i.e. to contribute to a better commercial success rate of future projects.

Based on current ports needs and scenarios describing the future, CAPOEIRA will issue common research topics at short, medium and long term (until 2020) and recommendations related to RDI projects implementation. CAPOEIRA will lead to a final conference and to a book destined to ports communities and research interest groups (advisory councils, RDI programmes).

CAPOEIRA will contribute to establish better dialogue between actors concerned by RDI in European ports and strengthen their innovation efforts to move forward towards a successful innovations path.
