Objectif The main aim of the proposal is to introduce the concepts and issues surrounding ethics in science and technology in Mongolia and as a by-product, in the wider region of South-East Asia. Mongolia, along with other neighbouring countries, is at a crossroad of economic transition while its well-educated scientific human base is faced with a host of new ethical issues in modern technologies and their applications that they are little prepared to deal with. The proposed workshop will provide a unique chance to analyse and debate these issues while learning from the experience gathered in Europe and elsewhere in developing economies. A group of experts representing a wide disciplinary and geographical experience related to the subject will provide input in the process of kick-starting a national debate on ethics in science and technology in Mongolia.A main output of this debate will be concrete policy recommendations for an ethics in science action plan that could be included in the forthcoming Mongolian national science and technology strategy. The active participation in this debate of other South-East Asian countries will also form a starting point for similar debates in the wider region as well as similar national initiatives.
