Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) in Munich, 2006

Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF) in Munich, 2006 ESOF will be a pan-European Forum on all sciences, including engineering, social sciences and the humanities, to be held in Munich July 15th to 19th 2006. The general purpose of the Forum is to showcase European science and to enhance dialogue between science and society. ESOF2006 will be the second event of its kind. The target is to attract about 2200 participants, including researchers, political decision makers, journalists, and lay persons interested in science and technology. In attracting such diverse target groups ESOF2006 will encourage exchange between different scientific disciplines, cultures as well as between the professional and public sphere through enhancing the public's interest in science and shaping the scientists' awareness of the public's rightful role. ESOF2006 will also be a platform to address the important themes of science governance, such as ERA, thereby creating a more dynamic interface between science and policy making. Thus, it encourages the active participation of scientists in policy development and contributes to shape the European scientific culture. The event will be combined with an extensive outreach programme which takes place in the heart of Munich as to ensure a high recognition by the Munich public. Interactive exhibitions, talks and presentations will invite participants from all age groups to get a hands-on experience of research as well as encourage them to join in critical discussions on issues related to modern science. Following the sucess of the first Forum, ESOF2006 will further pursue the goal of inspiring young people to consider careers in science. Therefore, a special career programmes is organised to present particular career opprtunities and challenges of the new science-based professions.
