Satellite communication market assessment and cost benefit

Ziel

The market for Satellite Communication has undergone considerable change in the last ten years and further changes are anticipated in the coming years. A comprehensive understanding of how the market is changing, what this means for European industry and the strategies to enable Europe to be in a position to take full advantage of the opportunities is needed. In the first phase of the study we will look at what the future markets for Satellite Communication are expected to be and the applications and servi ces which will be required. In addition, we will examine how both satellite and terrestrial communication technology is expected to evolve and what constraints and barriers there may be to this. At the completion of the first phase we expect to have an ass essment of how Satellite Communication is expected to evolve from now until 2030. The second phase will analyse the benefits by market, application and stakeholder and how space and terrestrial solution costs compare and how the solutions complement each o ther. The third phase will develop scenarios and strategies and analyse the implications of these on future Space Policy as well as to provide guidelines for future SatCom programmes. The SATMAC team includes widely-respected European companies in the fiel ds of space-segment and terrestrial telecommunications, telecommunication consulting, economics, market and cost-benefit analysis. It includes multinational and SME partners all of whom are already working on a number of existing and planned initiatives i n the broadband arena. All of the partners have experience of working at EU level on EU and ESA funded initiatives.
