Development of a strategic master plan for the transformation of the traditional textile and clothing into a knowledge driven industrial sector by 2015

Objective

CLEVERTEX aims at developing a master plan and frame framework for future actions in research, education and technology transfer in the field of multi-functional intelligent textile materials In Europe for transforming the industry in a dynamic, innovative , knowledge driven competitive and sustainable sector by 2015. Multifunctional intelligent textiles are materials and systems, which react in an intelligent manner to external stimuli. An example could be a fabric that inflates ut cold temperature to keep the wearer warm, professional garment that change of colour to warn of biologic contamination, underclothes that send out an alarm to the medical assistant nearby when your vital parameters are warning or a carpet that detect flood, fire or burglar... The workprogramme will include: * Analysis of the available European know/ledge base for intelligent textiles;, * Investigation fnto the socio-economic framework of the textile and clothing sector;. * Foresight: Design of the Delphi study strategic analysis fo r identification of prioritised needs, for the transition to a knowledge based industry; * Gap Analysis and feasibility; * Road mapping; * Exploitation, dissemination and management. The partners in this consortium have clear complementary skills. The Indu strial partners are involved in the development, the production and marketing of multi-functional, intelligent textiles. The research institutes, of which 2 are academic institutions and 2 are national research institutes with close links to the industry, havs expert knowledge on multifunctional intelligent textiles. The European textile and clothing association involved in the project has developed skills and expertise in performing foresight studies in the area of information technologies for the textiles and clothing industry.
