Objective

The project is aimed at an improved understanding of the causes of crack initiation and growth during hot rolling of long products, a frequent occurrence for low ductility steels such as free cutting and stainless steels. One target is to achieve crack free rolling of alternatives to leaded steels, a priority in view of the ELVD directive.

Constitutive material models including the effects of damage at high temperatures and strain rates will be developed and incorporated into FEM models, and validated by Laboratory testing, but also by use of Works-based defect detection techniques. Defect free Process regime maps will be developed.
