Perforation corrosion is a major limiting factor for developing products for the automotive industry today. We have no basic description of the environment within the hem flange, no real understanding of the nature of the electrochemical cell that leads to corrosion.

The main objectives of this project are to:
- Better explain corrosion processes in flanges. This will enable a much more effective design of thin film organic coatings and pre-treatments.
- Develop a short-term corrosion test to evaluate the corrosion protection effect of a coating in a flanged joint ("2 weeks instead of 20"). This will greatly facilitate development.
