Objective

This proposal is part of the ULCOS Program and is focused on carbon saving at the blast furnace with an objective of 25%. It aims at testing at a real blast furnace (EKO Stahl BF1) nitrogen-free operation and hot reducing gas injection into the shaft.

The objectives are:
- optimise the gas flow rate injected at the wall and its distribution inside the shaft
- assess the furnace behaviour under these conditions (thermal control, raceway formation, cohesive zone, pressure field, hearth, coke quality damages)
- assess the productivity increase of nitrogen-free operation
- demonstrate high rates of natural gas at the blast furnace.
