Revolution in Industrial Environment: Ambient Intelligence Technology for Systemic Innovation in Manufacturing SMEs

Ziel

The project aims at proposing a new, revolutionary scheme for systemic innovation of industrial working environments in SMEs by applying AmI technology. The actual approach of implementation of the AmI concept is oriented to surround people with electronic environments, sensitive and responsive to their wishes. AMI-4-SME will provide an essential RTD contribution in the migration of this approach to the manufacturing SMEs.

The project will develop:
- Two new manufacturing concepts for 2 scenarios within an extended SME context where AmI technology is likely to bring a breakthrough for SMEs: dynamic reconfiguration of manufacturing and assembly lines and multi-stakeholder involvement in maintenance process. AmI systems aim to bring the human operators in the centre of these processes, assuring their highest flexibility.
- Set of 3 innovative AmI technology building block prototypes, specially tailored to SMEs needs: New mobile multi-modal services assuring compatibility and workflow support in 2 addressed scenarios, by applying agent technology and semantic web; Innovative smart tags combined with agent technology to allow their active roles applicable in shop-floor; a Speech Recognition System radically enhanced w.r.t. robustness and interoperability, to be applicable in shop-floor environment and on mobile devices, by improvements in language modelling and in searching algorithms.
- Knowledge Forum, including a repository of AmI technology structured according to its reference applications in SMEs processes, allowing SMEs to effectively identify AmI technology to realise their innovation objectives.
- A new methodology for systemic innovation of industrial environment and organisation of work in SMEs based on AmI technology where the involvement of multiple SMEs within business process innovation represents a key issue.

The developed methodology and AmI technology prototypes will be validated within 5 different SME business cases from 4 different sectors.
