Objetivo The research proposal regards the application and development of novel techniques of landscape archaeology as historical ecology in the Vulsinian area (central Italy). The Project has a series of scientific objectives, which collectively seek also to simultaneously provide a wide experience and training for the researcher:1) The historical reconstruction and modelling of the demography of a sample context of the middleTiber Valley.2) The historical reconstruction of the territorial exploitation of the area.3) T he definition of the human causes for territorial change and particularly for increased erosion.4) The investigation of new and advanced use of GIS techniques and methodologies and predictive models.5) The development of the use of satellite, LiDAR and multi-spectral remote sensing data.6) The testing new methodologies of archaeological surveying in a historical ecology perspective.7) The Bagnoregio area survey. The researcher will work with a multidisciplinary team and bring other specialisations to the University of Cambridge and he will also be engaged within a network of both European and international geoscientists and archaeologists. The research project is structured into six phases, within a period of 24 months, summarised below:I) Scientific training (six months);II) Bibliographic researches (three months);III) Field surveys and pottery analysis (two months, divided into two field seasons of 30-day search);IV) Laboratory analyses (three months);V) Geographic Information Systems analysis and reconstruction (four months);VI) Final synthesis of data: dissemination through workshops, web site resources and academic journal papers (six months).
