Cel The FLUBIO single host EST project, located at the University of Genova, will provide outstanding research training in the field of basic and applied Fluid Mechanics to young researchers.Research/educational competences of the 9 members of the FLUBIO research team cover a wide spectrum of topics in Basic, Environmental and Biological Fluid Mechanics. The programme will initially run for 4 years and be rooted in a solid educational strategy blending classical fluid dynamics courses with modern complementary training activities.Research methods will be interdisciplinary and activities will focus on basic and applied fluid mechanics, including Coastal and Riverine Hydro-Morphodynamics (a subject where DIAM is a world leader) and Bio-Fluid Mechanics (an emerging topic within DIAM). FLUBIO foresees collaborations/synergies with industries, medical laboratories and environmental agencies.The 10 trainees (engineers, mathematicians, bio-ecologists, physicists), admitted on the basis of merit and potential, will be exposed to a research programme in which excellence is the rewarding factor. Monitoring/adjustment of the activities towards success of the programme will be made on the basis of Research and Training/Educational Achievements, Collaborations/Visibility, External Funding and Ethics.FLUBIO is very timely as it will serve the EU need to develop competencies in natural hazard/environmental management for use across platforms like the "Green 9" and the EEP, it will provide support in Bio-Fluids topics related with Bio-Technologies and will spread the EU new competences thus contributing to the ERA.FLUBIO will establish a solid operative framework thus overcoming fragmentation as well as providing young researchers with pathway opportunities between academia and industry (the latter also benefiting from exploitation of research results and availability of qualified scientists).
