Network theory and applications to computing and engineering

NET-ACE will provide high quality multi-disciplinary research training within a research project developing and applying the theory of the novel small world and scale free networks. This topic is both novel and timely, and will allow new insights into our current understanding of graph theory as well as the development of new tools and methods for a variety of technologically important problems in engineering and computing. The methodologies to be employed will come from statistical physics, discrete mathematics and operational research and the applications from power, water and communications networks.

The research supervisors, whose research expertise spans physics, mathematics, computing and engineering, are leading international researchers who between them have supervised over 70 PhD students. Brunel University can provide a world-class infrastructure, effective support and guidance mechanisms and a comprehensive programme of complementary skills training. The research training includes two three-month placements within leading university research groups in the EU and Candidate Countries, and a three-month industrial secondment with an employer. NET-ACE will organise and promote three summer schools, which will be themed on Network Theory, Complementary Skills and Recent Advances in Network Applications.
