Signal transduction by Ubiquitination, a matter of location

Objective

The objective of the Network is to train 12 young European scientists in one of the most exciting areas of cell signalling using advanced techniques in molecular and cell biology, and to attain the highest standards of intellectual independence and responsibility. In addition, the Network will educate them in knowledge exploitation and entrepreneurial skills. This will be accomplished by the creation of an integrated fellowship research program, and includes rotations through the different laboratories of t he Network, post-graduate courses and workshops. Choices of research questions, courses and planning indicate the sincere intention to improve industry-academia cooperation, to defragment the research area, to educate a new generation of scientists in Europe, and to involve less favoured regions in research of recognised international stature. The scientific program aims at understanding ubiquitination-driven signal transduction. The field is intrinsically multidisciplinary. The challenge of UbiRegulators is to integrate the complexity of ubiquitination with signal transduction mechanisms in the context of cellular organisation. This will be accomplished by organizing the research in three themes:
1. Integrating ubiquitination and signalling at the Endoplasmic Reticulum-Golgi boundaries,
2. Membrane trafficking and signal transduction controlled by ubiquitination,
3. Signalling in and around the nucleus.
