Obiettivo The major goal of the proposed project is to transfer the competences of the applicant to an interdisciplinary field of nanoscience (responsive and/or biocompatible nano-assembles and knowledge-based materials). To reach this goal the host will provide advanced training in several state-of-the-art surface characterization methods (e.g. surface force techniques like AFM and surface force apparatus, as well as QCM-D, ellipsometry and ESCA), with which the applicant has no previous experience and which are important tools of the targeted field. Furthermore, the applicant will gain research competences in a leading edge field of nano-science.The scientific program is based on a novel family of polymers (comb-like polyelectrolytes grafted with neutral hydrophilic chains) and divided into two work packages. The major goal of WP1 is to gain an understanding how the novel polymer structure affects the polymer/surfactant interaction in the bulk phase and at interfaces, thus providing the fundamental information needed to fine tune the structure of the novel polymers to specific applications. WP2 aims at the development of novel approaches to prepare biocompatible, patterned and responsive nanostructures needed e.g. in biotechnology and nanosensor assembly. Finally, the host will expose the candidate to the training of complementary skills that are essential to gain independence. Altogether, the project will complete and diversify the competences of the researcher which will enable him to start an independent career by initiating research in a new area of activity in his home institution in Budapest (which is in a less favoured region in a new member state of EU).Finally, since the researcher's home institution is a university, he will also be able to disseminate his newly developed competences, thus ensuring the transfer of knowledge to a wider audience, a constant flow of early stage researchers toward the ERA and thus the enhancement of EU scientific excellence.
