Contact point network to attract young African scientists to participate in EU-funded research programmes on PRD

Objective

The overall objective of these actions is to create a network of information points in form of three Regional Contact Points

in sub-Saharan Africa to ensure that young African scientists are encouraged, motivated and facilitated with the necessary

information to participate in EU-funded research programmes on poverty related diseases. Each RCP will be responsible

for one Region: the TRDC in Zambia for Southern Africa, the Fobang Foundation in Cameroon for Western Africa and the

ACCT for Eastern Africa. With the help of the expertise of their counterparts in Europe (NCPs), the RCPs will be set up

under the coordination of ESSB. The set up of the contact point network will attract young African scientists to

PRD research as well as reinforce and consolidate the research system in sub-Saharan African countries in order to

facilitate their involvement in the opening-up of the European Research Area in the region.

Furthermore, it will support the preparation of activities related to future Framework Programmes (FP7) in the sub-Saharan

African countries and strengthen the co-ordination and complementarities with activities carried out by other national and

international institutions on PRD.
