Distributed (Internet-based) automated system for acquiring and analysis of eye tracking data

Objetivo

The project is aimed at the development of software and hardware tools for automated eye-tracking testing. The project bears interdisciplinary features in both methodology and potential applications and addresses Topic VI of the Call "New instrumentation, technologies and methods for multidisciplinary research". It involves development of software (including internet-based distributed systems, data processing, storage, and output formatting), development of optical hardware for automated eye tracking data acquisition, studies in human perception of visual information, design and construction of testing stations. Within the project we are going to develop: 1. Interface for conversion of images into a standardized testable format. 2. Software for uploading converted visual material from the core server to testing stations equipped with eye trackers. 3. Software for testing stations. 4. Software for data processing, analysis and presenting the output via the Internet in a usable format. 5. Hardware for automated, user-operable eye-tracking testing. The system is aimed to be flexible with respect to various demands of potential end-users. The software will be operated directly from the core server accessible via the Internet. Standard modules will be written for typical eye-tracking tests. When a substantially large set of modules for automated testing is created, testing and data analysis can be done by users without any specific knowledge of statistics or programming. Studies can be performed without the need to involve a qualified operator of the eye-tracking machine.
