Objective

The general goal of the MoICCo project is to train young researchers in advanced System-On-Chip technology with an emphasis on applications integrating analogue and RF functionality. We intend a technological leap towards full system integration of future `Ambient Intelligence¨ and `Ubiquitous Communication¨ applications.

This includes a broad interdisciplinary training program in the field of modelling and characterization, covering four areas,
1) Advanced RF characterization for 50-200 GHz applications,
2) The improvement of analysis methods for ¨matching¨, the property that most limits analogue performance,
3) Compact modelling for analogue and RF devices,
4) Novel and future device options for RF.

The four fellows will be trained for three years in applied advanced research towards RF and analogue integration. The future needs for these capabilities will be huge, given the `wireless revolution¨ that started in the communication area and that is now spreading around towards other consumer applications. The fellows will contribute actively to enhance RF semiconductor research in Europe. The proposed training will meet the stringent needs of a modern science and technology training, which will give the trainees a strong basis to start a research career at international top-level. The training will be in Philips Research Labs in Eindhoven. Close interaction with IC Technology Research and IC Design Research will stimulate an optimal broad perspective.

The program is embedded in a structure of successful Philips internal projects related to analogue and RF modelling. The group had 100% acceptance rate at all major conferences already for more than 5 years. Moreover, they operate in a network of national- and international contacts with university groups. The requested 4 trainees will be coached by principal scientists or research fellows at Philips Research and by several professors from Dutch universities (Delft, Twente, Leiden).
