Control of reproduction in mollusc bivalves: research of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone-like (GnRH-like) receptor gene

Objectif

This research project is leading with clarifying essential biological functions of reproductive processes in commercial mollusc bivalves to provide new breeding methods, important stage to improve hatchery production. During my PhD research I have pointed out the importance of internal regulation in bivalve reproduction and Gonadotropin-releasing hormones (GnRH) constitute a family of neuropeptides known to be important regulators of reproduction in vertebrates. In invertebrates, GnRH-like factors have received little attention, but recent studies on dissociate gonadal cells and GnRH-like immunoreactive material suggesting that peptides of the GnRH-like family are present and functional in bivalve molluscs.

The main goal of this research project is to isolate, identificate and analyse GnRH-like receptor gene(s)from the gonad of Pecten maximus and then to study its expression through the qametogenic cycle.
