Biomedical engineering as a means to improve quality of life

Objectif

The Fifth EC Framework Programme has put forward a number of research priorities, to respond to real needs of European citizens and to enhance, amongst others, their quality of life. The European scientific community is invited to formulate research proposals to address these priorities and submit them to the expert panels of the EC.

It is proposed here that ESEM (European Society for Engineering and Medicine), in collaboration with ESAO (European Society for Artificial Organs) would organise a scientific meeting to identify in detail how to respond to the demands of the 'Quality of Life' theme. The delegates attending the symposium will benefit from a reflection on which research projects can be proposed in the upcoming calls for proposals, based upon the actual state of the art in biomedical research and taken into account the research priorities of FP V. A report will be produced and disseminated broadly.
