Final Report - GOCINO (GOCE in ocean modelling)

Project ID: 30756
Funded under: FP6-AEROSPACE

This is the final activity report of the EC-funded Gocino project which actively contributed to the promotion of data from the Gravity and ocean circulation experiment (GOCE) satellite mission as well as the transfer of knowledge. This new type of Earth observation satellite - launched by ESA in March 2009 - can measure the Earth's gravity and geoid with unprecedented accuracy.

This report describes the efforts of the project consortium to advance the readiness of oceanographic centres to incorporate new Earth observation data in their working methods and thereby fill the gaps between existing Global monitoring for environment and security (GMES) projects.

To facilitate the interaction and exchange of experiences between the GOCE data processing team and users several conferences and workshops were organised. In the report, a synthesis of the questions that arose during the workshop and mainly address challenges in implementing GOCE data in ocean models is presented.
