Final Report - SEEWEC (Sustainable Economically Efficient Wave Energy Converter)

Project ID: 19969
Funded under: FP6-SUSTDEV

The European Community has set targets for reduced greenhouse gas emissions and increased renewable energy sources exploitation, in order to minimise the environmental impacts of energy industry and to satisfy a greater proportion of electricity demand without imports necessity. Wave energy has the potential to be exploited as a renewable source, however only a limited number of the currently investigated technologies resulted in trials of commercial deployment.

The EU-funded project SEEWEC aimed to develop cost effective solutions that could be widely applied for the conversion of wave energy into electricity. This final report of the SEEWEC project provides an overview of the progress attained in all scientific fields involved in the converter development. It also summarises the various socio-economic impacts of the project and analyses its significance under the contemporary European energy policy frame.
