Final Report - EU-MED AGPOL (Impacts of agricultural trade liberalization between the EU and the Mediterranean countries)

Project ID: 502457
Funded under: FP6-POLICIES

Some measure of trade liberalisation is sure to come, but its effects are far less certain. History tells us that trade policy reform is easier to introduce if simultaneous compensation is made for consequent losses. Estimation of these losses is no simple matter in the case of Mediterranean agriculture, as the European fruit and vegetable market has seasonal variations and quality distinctions and is evolving as the health benefits of a Mediterranean diet are promoted. Accurate forecasts of the impact of free trade in the region are, therefore, highly desirable.

Their final report is divided into three major sections. The first section provides an overview of the project. The second major section provides a summary of the activities undertaken and results from each of the nine work packages on the project. It constitutes the bulk of this report since most of the project work was accomplished through the work packages. The third section provides a synthesis of the dissemination activities associated with the project.
