Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

A two day workshop, organised jointly by DGXII F and DGVII E, was held in Brussels on 4/5 May 1998. The main purpose was to provide information for the Commission on future research in technology strategies for transport energy environment. The major issues discussed involved the interaction between climate change, quality of life, land use and transport networks. The workshop allowed the assessment of:

- The current state of the RTD in the subject area, through the presentation and discussion of methods, techniques and modelling tools within the various projects;
- The effectiveness of the tools currently available;
- The gaps in current RTD and the need, subsequently, for further research actions.

The document identifies:

- Areas where the current level of knowledge appears inadequate;
- The limits of the current methodological approaches and modelling tools;
- Currently available data and urgent action to allow continuous improvement;
- The suitability of the current tools for the support of policy implementation;
- Conclusions identifying future priorities for research activities and programmes.
