Final Report - IPROMES (Using Image Processing as a Metrological Solution)

This is the final report for the IPROMES project. The importance of metrological controls is increasing in the engineering industry, and particularly in aeronautics, due to the high measurement precision and quality requirements. Unfortunately, in order to reach the high level of quality, performance and safety needs, European aircraft industries have been obliged to invest in expensive and specific solutions as the dimensional precision and the positioning issues are critical.

The IPROMES project aimed at developing relevant photogrammetry and image processing techniques to perform the 'in-process' positioning (during the assembly phase) and 'afterwards', to complete the final dimensional control in the aeronautics sector and their efforts, achievements and patents are revealed in their final report. Of note: The new design of the sensor allows handling of difficult surface properties as encountered on aeronautic parts, such as high reflectivity of the surface patches. Furthermore, the scientific progress in sensor design improved the accuracy.
