Final Report - VENUS TRANSIT 2004 (Venus transit in June 2004: exoplanets and the size of the world)

Project ID: 508963
Funded under: FP6-SOCIETY

This is the final report of the VENUS TRANSIT 2004 project, which involved a large international network composed of teachers, students, high school pupils, amateur astronomers, and a more general public. Participants could undertake themselves a real measurement of a fundamental astronomical value, the astronomical unit, thanks to the timing of this event, and compare their own observational data with the theoretical ones.

The report begins with a reference on the Venus passing in front of the Sun (8 June 2004) and the opportunities for new pedagogic actions and networking in the area of astronomy research. There is then a description of the project's objectives and basic organisation in conferences and meetings. Finally, there is a presentation of dissemination actions and plans and an explanation of the basic features of the websites and knowledge databases developed. There is also a summary on the final event in Paris.
