Final Report - SUME (Sustainable Urban Metabolism for Europe)

Project ID: 212034
Funded under: FP7-ENVIRONMENT

Urban development includes processes of growth in new areas, decay, abandonment and also restructuring and rehabilitation in others. The extent and speed of these alternate components of urban development varies strongly between different cities and countries, leading to different patterns of land use, resource and energy consumption. The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) project SUME took these differences into account while analysing the potential of transformation of existing urban built environments in order to significantly reduce resource and energy consumption.

The report visualises the work performed through figures and tables based on the project's working papers. Results from SUME show the impacts of urban form and the long-term impacts of alternative spatial development paths of European metropolises on resource flows such as land and energy consumption until 2050.
