This is the publishable summary report for the IDEAL-CELL project which received funding under the European Commission's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). Its main aim was to fabricate an innovative fuel cell concept based on a dual membrane with mixed protonic and anionic conduction and operating at intermediate temperature, ideally 600 degrees of Celsius. The innovative concept steps on a three compartment fuel cell design realised by a junction between a Proton conducting fuel cell (PCFC) anode part (anode/electrolyte) and a Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) cathode part (electrolyte/cathode) through a mixed proton and oxide ion conducting porous ceramic membrane.

The report highlights the electrochemical and mathematical theoretical model developed to describe the operation of this new cell, as well as the two major processes, namely ceramic and plasma spraying, to compare its performance.
